Trump's plan to evacuate millions of Gazans to Libya is not true: US Embassy in Tripol

US President Donald Trump's administration is working on a plan to evacuate Palestinians from war-torn Gaza to Libya, the US Embassy in Tripoli has said, calling the media reports "not true."

In a post on social media (Xe, formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the US Embassy in Tripoli wrote that the news about the alleged plan to relocate Gazans to Libya is not true.

NBC News published a report on this last Friday. The report said that the Trump administration is working on a plan to permanently evacuate about a million Gazans to Libya.

NBC News reported the news, citing five people familiar with the plan. Two of them are directly aware of the matter.

The Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) has not yet responded to the report.

After taking office for a second term in January, Trump announced a plan to evacuate the Gaza Strip by relocating Palestinians to other countries. He called on Egypt and Jordan to provide shelter for Gaza residents. However, both countries rejected Trump's call.

In March, Trump said, amid fierce debate and criticism, that "no Palestinian will be removed from Gaza." The Gaza-based Palestinian independence movement Hamas welcomed Trump's statement in a statement. However, in April, Trump again called for the evacuation of Palestinians from Gaza.
